Psycho/Spiritual/Education Support Group

For People Who Live With a Spouse, Parent, Child, or Sibling Who has a Mental Illness or Addiction

Thursdays, 5:15-7:15pm, Beginning September 9 and ending October 14

This group is to provide support to family members who live with someone who has a mental illness and/or addiction, helping them to navigate the stress of caring and increasing their intimacy with God.  We will look deeply at the ministry that family members have been called - asking and answering some of the difficult questions that go with being exposed to such suffering.  Fun, new friends, music, movement, art, prayer and an anointing ceremony will be part of the weekly activities, but mostly we will be allowing ourselves to be healed by God, so that we might better love our family as ourselves.  It is our hope that we might continue the work of removing the stigma of mental illness so that each of us might be free to share our joys and concerns and feel the support of our Christian family when struggling with mental illness.

This group is designed and facilitated by Tina Lightner-Morris, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Pastoral Psychotherapist, for her dissertation project at Wesley Theological Seminary.  Tina is also the mother of an adult child who has lived with mental illness since infancy.  In addition, she was a guest preacher here at Faith Church in June.

For more information, please contact Tina Lightner-Morris at 301-524-0808 or Tina@lightbalancecounseling.org.
