First Sunday of Advent
Worship at 8:45m and 10:00am
He came to his hometown and began to teach the people in their synagogue, so that they were astounded and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these deeds of power? Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all this?” –Matthew 13:54-56
Faithful, Christmas Through the Eyes of Joseph Sermon Series: “A Carpenter Named Joseph”
The Gospel of Matthew presents the nativity story with particular attention to Joseph, Mary’s husband. We’re not that different from Joseph. True, we may not be part of a story that will be remembered for all time, but like Joseph, we encounter circumstances that we’d never choose for ourselves. At times, it can be tempting just to walk away, but Joseph provides us a great example of humbly obeying God even when we don’t understand, faithfully moving forward in the strength that God provides.
Today we begin a sermon series titled Faithful: Christmas Through the Eyes of Joseph, based on the book of the same name by Adam Hamilton.
Scriptures: Isaiah 64:1-9; Matthew 13:54-56
