Second Sunday of Advent
One Worship Service Only at 10:00am
Get you up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good tidings; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good tidings, lift it up, do not fear; say to the cities of Judah, “Here is your God!” See, the Lord God comes with might, and his arm rules for him; his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms, and carry them in his bosom, and gently lead the mother sheep. –Isaiah 40:9-11
Our Chancel Choir, Organist Bob Holder, and the M Street Brass Quintet, under the direction of Michael Wu, combine to deliver a special Advent music presentation of new settings of six old Advent and Christmas texts (Sir Christimas, High on a Hill, As Dew in April, Who Will Come to Bethlehem, There is No Rose, and Lullay My Liking).
This is a premier of the work of Brian Holmes (b. 1946). Holmes not only writes music and plays French horn, but is also a professor of physics at San Jose State University in San Jose, California. He has also recently published a textbook on Physics and Music. His compositions have won awards, most recently the 2012 American Prize in Choral Composition, and he has served as composor in residence for the Vivace Children’s Chorus.
